Meet Our Donors

Meet Chuck and Maggie Powder. The couple has lived in Tipp City for over 30 years, founded a computer software company in Dayton in 1979, working there until they retired. Charles and Maggie raised their two children, David and Kara, who are now living in Wisconsin and South Carolina.

Maggie became connected to Bethany Village when her mother, Connie, made the decision to become a resident. Connie was a resident who lived at Bethany Village for over 20 years. What impressed Maggie and Charles was how Bethany provided all the services necessary for Connie to live an active and healthy lifestyle—both physical and spiritual. Maggie made herself at home at Bethany, as she would have wherever her mom was living. Through all the levels of her mother's care, Maggie became friends with many of the residents. What made a big impression on Maggie was when her mother's savings ran short, Bethany's Benevolent Care fund made it possible to cover the cost of care that were beyond her mother's means.

In memory of her mother Connie, Maggie and Chuck initially sent an annual check as a charitable contribution to support the Benevolent Fund. With tax laws impacting charitable deductions changing so much over the last five years, the couple found that making a donation to Graceworks using a portion of an IRA's required minimum distribution made sense because it offered a direct reduction in taxable income for both federal and state returns. How did the couple come to this conclusion? They both volunteer with AARP's Tax-Aide program offering free tax preparation services to seniors. Understanding the tax benefits of an IRA was an incentive for the couple to give generously to Graceworks.
